OMEGA AIR · HVAC OWNER CARE CENTER

KEEP YOUR HVAC SYSTEM RUNNING RIGHT.

Simple owner tips for heat pumps, smart thermostats, filters, condensate drains and seasonal maintenance — built for Omega Air customers in San Diego County.

THERMOSTAT & ENERGY

Use your thermostat smarter.

Modern multi-stage and variable-capacity systems work best when allowed to maintain a reasonably steady indoor temperature. Avoid frequent large setpoint changes.

01

Steady setpoint

Longer run times can be normal during hot weather and often provide better comfort than frequent short cycling.

02

Use ecobee schedules

Set Home, Away, Sleep and vacation periods so the thermostat adjusts automatically.

03

Solar-friendly cooling

If your home has solar, modest pre-cooling during strong daytime production may reduce grid use later.

BEFORE 4 PM 74–76°F

Normal comfort. On very hot days, consider modest pre-cooling.

4 PM–9 PM 77–79°F

If comfortable, allow the setpoint to rise a few degrees to reduce on-peak HVAC use.

AFTER 9 PM 75–76°F

Return to your preferred comfort setting.

SDG&E: Many residential Time-of-Use plans use 4 PM–9 PM as an on-peak period. Verify your actual SDG&E or CCA rate plan before relying on this example schedule.
AIR FILTER

Protect airflow first.

A dirty filter can reduce airflow, increase operating cost and make the equipment work harder.

CHECK MONTHLY
Typical 1-inch filter
Replace about every 30–60 days
Sooner with pets, dust or heavy HVAC use.
  • Install the filter with the airflow arrow pointing toward the HVAC equipment.
  • Use the size and MERV rating specified for your system.
  • If airflow becomes weaker, inspect the filter first.
CONDENSATE DRAIN

Water protection matters.

Drain buildup

Algae, dust and debris can build up over time. Regular inspection and flushing reduces blockage risk.

Overflow protection

Many Omega Air installations include safeties designed to stop HVAC operation before backed-up water causes damage.

If the system stops

Do not repeatedly reset the breaker. A condensate safety may have activated and should be inspected.

OUTDOOR UNIT

Keep the condenser / heat pump breathing.

Homeowner care

  • Keep leaves, weeds and storage away.
  • Remove loose visible debris.
  • Keep landscaping from growing into the cabinet.

Leave these to a technician

  • Do not pressure-wash the coil.
  • Do not open electrical panels.
  • Do not attempt refrigerant service.
PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE

Two professional visits per year.

For a heat pump used for both cooling and heating, Omega Air recommends spring and fall maintenance.

Spring

Cooling operation, airflow, condensate drainage, electrical condition and coil inspection before summer.

Fall

Heating operation, thermostat staging and heat-pump performance before cooler weather.

Every visit

Filter, blower, visible ducts, electrical components, drain safeties and overall performance.

WHEN TO CALL OMEGA AIR

Do not ignore changes in normal operation.

No cooling or heating
Thermostat is calling but the home is not reaching temperature.
Water near indoor equipment
Arrange an inspection to prevent property damage.
Ice on refrigerant piping
May indicate an airflow or refrigeration problem.
Repeated breaker trips
Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that continues to trip.
Weak airflow
Check the filter first; if airflow remains weak, schedule service.
New noises or shutdowns
Changes in normal operation are worth checking early.
